COURTS OF THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF GHANA
WHAT IS A COURT IN PCG?
(a) Is a means to improve the Administration Relations of the Church
(b) It is a means set by the Church for the efficient running of the structures
of the Church.
(c) It is a means by which the Church is governed, regulated and monitored.
(d) The Church has 4 courts.
- The Congregational Session ( Local Session).
- The District Session.
- The Presbytery.
- The General Assembly.
WHAT IS A PCG CONGREGATION?
(a) Is a fellowship of men, women, youth and children who confess Jesus as
their Lord and Saviour and have agreed to worship the Lord Jesus Christ
according to the PCG Constitution, Customs and Traditions.
(b) Is a group of Christian Men, Women, Youth and Children who are ready
to serve the Lord Jesus as their Lord and King in the Fellowship of
Presbyterian Community Lifestyle.
(c) Is a Community of Christians who are bound by the Constitution, the
Manual of Order, the Conventional Orders, Customs and the Tradition of

life and worship and it monitors and controls all affairs of the groups etc.
(e) The Session is the Executive of the Congregation.
WHAT IS A PCG DISTRICT?
(a) It is two or more PCG congregations under one ordained minister.
(b) It is established by a Presbytery, with approval of the General Assembly.
(c) It is an integral part of the Presbytery.
(d) It is not less than 700 adults, and capable of meeting its financial
obligations (Local, District, Presbytery and National.
(e) It is the assembly of representatives of congregation in a Pastoral District.
(f) The District Session is established to govern the District’s day to day life
and worship, and it monitors and controls all affairs of the Congregation
in the Districts.
(g) The District Session is the highest Court of the District.
(h) The District Session Council is the executive of the District Session.
(i) The District Session Council meets three times a year.
WHAT IS A PRESBYTERY?
(a) The General Assembly may elect a Presbytery with not less than four
Pastoral Districts spread over a large area.
(b) The Presbytery is established to govern the Districts’ day to day life and
worship and also monitors and controls all the Districts in the Presbytery.
(c) It is able to meet the financial obligations and other relevant factors.
(d) The Presbytery meets once a year - Presbytery Meeting.
(e) The Presbytery is led by a Presbytery Council, which meets thrice a year.
(f) The Presbytery Council is the Executive of the Presbytery.
(g) The Presbytery meets once a year for business meeting.
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
(a) It is the supreme court of the PCG; in matters and spiritual. Its decisions
shall be final. This court is headed by the Moderator.
(b) It is the supreme factor of unity among all her Presbyters and Committees;
she heads the ultimate and authority of the Church.
(c) The General Assembly Council is the Executive of the Assembly.
